The No Normal®

The No Normal®

I trademarked this term some time ago, because “normal” means “routine” and “typical,” and who strives for that? In professional services we need to adapt to constantly changing times, expectations, and extraordinary conditions.

As we watch the Final Four or World Cup or Masters, the US is engaged in a huge war probably costing a billion a day. At the same time, astronauts in the Artemis II rocket are farther from earth than any humans in history. The entertainment industry is experiencing monolithic swallowing of other huge organizations (sort of the tyrannosaurus eating a diplodocus), while also dealing with virtual actors and backdrops that threaten the profession. AI is frightening people more than helping them. Traditional alliances, such as NATO, are being reassessed. Russia and Ukraine continue a war of attrition while reinventing warfare, where drones substitute for aircraft carriers and bombers.

We've rejected a nullity of a candidate in Kamala Harris overwhelmingly to accept a faulty candidate in Trump in the most powerful position in the world.

Electric cars are a reality, but not the universal replacements envisioned. We seem determined but confused by the existentialness of climate change, and I think what will be the coming existential issue of living food sources. Polarization in politics (and even in civility) has become calcified. Sexual harassment charges bring down famous restauranteurs as well as media and political figures (and connections to Jeffrey Epstein makes spiderwebs seem straightforward by comparison).

We've introduced algorithms  and robotic aids into baseball, and we bemoan the head injuries possible in football while allowing our kids to continue to play it at young ages (along with soccer). New generations have taken over leadership in business, education, and other pursuits, and their frames of reference are questionable. Polity has disappeared, and people insist that employees be fired when they are speaking to each other about issues with which the customer disagrees.

The opportunities here are endless. Ain't life grand?

We now bring you back to your regular programming. Oh, wait….
