Tipping Point

Tipping Point

We needed 50, 40-pound bags of salt to open our salt water pool for this new season. While I could buy them from the local pool store, the transport and loading and then dispersal are tedious and difficult. I found, however, that WalMart would deliver a pallet of 50 bags to my home, and then I figured quite correctly, that if I gave the two delivery guys a hundred bucks, they would carry the bags the 30 yards to the pool and distribute them around the perimeter. Problem solved.

These two men did something above and beyond their job requirement, they're not paid all that well, and the tip was greatly appreciated, as was the work they performed for me. This is why people deserve compensation for efforts they make and results they create.

Some of you may feel this is a “first world” problem, but life is not zero-sum to me. That is, I don't have to lose when you win, and you don't have to lose when I win. We deserve the lifestyles we have or aspire to, and all lifestyles have problems to be solved. The people who help solve them are the ones who keep improving their lifestyles. That's why I keep improving mine.
