Un-normality

Un-normality

I’m trained to look for distinctions, and I’m always curious as to why, even in these bizarre times, some individuals and businesses do so much better than others. We can point to broad generalities, such as “leadership” or “customer loyalty,” but I think it’s really about:

• Optimism: They expect their efforts will succeed, not fail.

• Resilience: They are confident they can bounce back from setback and momentary defeat.

• Innovation: They don’t try to fix things and restore past standards, they create new standards appropriate for the times.

• People: They allow people agency and the ability to apply their talents and be recognized for the attempt, not just count “victories and defeats.”

There’s no “old normal,” “current normal,” or “new normal.” There’s just today followed by tomorrow. The last thing I want to be involved in or recognized for is “normal.”
