Where’s the Energy Going?
I’ve always pointed out to clients that they possess only 100% of their people’s energy, time, and talent. “Give me 110%” is a stupid, meaningless, platitude.
The real question is how that 100% is allocated. In the best organizations, about 90% is directed at the customer or client, the product, service, and/or relationship. In poor organizations that’s reversed, and the attention is on office politics, who’s getting the next promotion, protecting turf, and internecine warfare. Too many organizations are at about 50/50. That is a huge waste and a violation of commitments to shareholders and investors, and service to customers.
How would you analyze the US Congress and executive branch right now? Focused on foreign affairs, infrastructure, health, commerce, economic development, trade, and so forth? Or on internecine warfare?
