Yeah, Yeah, the Big Bad Wolf Is Coming

Yeah, Yeah, the Big Bad Wolf Is Coming

If you harp on something long enough, it loses its potency. The same phenomenon happens in organizations. “Customer-focused” and “lean” or whatever lose meaning when they are daily, empty mantras.

People have to buy into change and initiatives based on their own self-interest, not by drinking the Kool-Aid.

So true. It’s also how most packaged change effort are sold and implemented – as Kool-Aid (big, bright imagery and loud, amplified song). Managers think if they can get enough people drinking it then all their hopes and dreams will come true. But they forget that the first question most people will ask (your earlier post) is: “What’s in it for me?” Most managers have no answer.

Management-by-tools (lean, agile, etc.) is management for tools.
