During an “open house” at my kids’ school on evening (do they still have these?) the fourth grade teacher, who must have been 24-years-old, said, “Here’s the deal: If you don’t believe what your kids tell you about me, I won’t believe what they tell me about you.”

I have told this to every new client: “Your people will tell you that I’m an outsider who doesn’t know the culture and just wants to create change to earn money. They’ll tell me that you’re the cause of all the problems and nothing will change unless you do. So let’s disregard all of that and spend our time together improving the operation.”
