Cathedrals

Cathedrals

There’s this ancient speaker’s story about masons at work laying bricks.

The first one is asked, “What are you doing?” and he replies, “Laying bricks.”

However, when the second one is asked the same question, he replies, “Building a cathedral.”

So the moral of this story is that the second is doing a better job because he has an end in mind and not simply a task.

However, I think there’s a third mason, and when he’s asked the question he replies, “I’m bringing people closer to God.”

The first is a job, the second is a career, but the third is a calling involving passion and commitment. Which do you have at the moment? Are you passionate about the value you create or are you just trying to make a buck?
