Signs of New York

The rather upscale bar the Pierre Hotel provides in its suites; Katz’s classic pastrami on rye (“order mayonnaise at your own peril”); and a part of the 15,000-volume private library at the JPMorgan Museum.

The pastrami on rye looks delicious.

Are all the books in the library from J.P. Morgan’s time?

Yes. For example, he has scores of different Bibles, which, as Colleen noted, end where Dante’s Inferno begins on the shelves! He has letters from Cornwallis to Washington seeking to surrender, musical notations for Beethoven and Verdi, letters from Michelangelo and Machiavelli, etc. Stunning.

    Hi Alan,

I’ll be in NY at the end of next week and the week after and was looking for something in mid-town I haven’t seen yet.

I think I’ll visit the Morgan Library. Thanks for the idea.
