Standing Room Only

Standing Room Only

We visited the new and impressive Hudson Yards in New York City last evening. The shopping is incredible, there is a surfeit of outstanding dining, a rather bizarre piece of art (The Vessel), and you can live, work, and spend your life there!

Of note: On the shopping levels there is virtually no public seating—no benches or chairs. I’m guessing that’s to avoid younger people from hanging out, I don’t know, but with an aging population—and the population which can afford what’s being sold in the very high-end stores—it’s short-sighted not to have areas to rest. Making a place “hip” is great, but failing to identify your ideal buyers is not.

Don’t know about New York… but where I am there’s another shortage of an item in public places. An item we once took for granted. Trash cans. Can’t find a public trash can when you need one these days.
