The Yellow Line

The Yellow Line

When they introduced the “yellow line” superimposed on the TV screen during football games (so that you can tell where the first down marker is) my wife suddenly took an interest in the game, and began watching with me. When she learned some of the basketball rules—and how they are enforced unevenly and you have to just accept that—she became a strong fan. My son can’t believe the excellent sports talks he now has with his mother.

When you give someone the insights and tools to better understand, you can create huge interest. At work, with your clients, that’s usually about understanding the customer benefits and outcomes of the job, not merely the tasks that go into it.
