Platibook

Platibook

The platypus is a rare animal, of course, an egg-laying mammal (monotreme). I’ve seen them in Australia, and they are fascinating, but really peculiar looking.

“Platibook” is my name for much of Facebook, where people cite platitudes (definition: a remark or statement, especially one with a moral content, that has been used too often to be interesting or thoughtful) as if they are laws of the universe, despite for every one headed east, there’s another headed west. (A stitch in time saves nine. Haste makes waste. The race goes to the swift. Remember the tortoise and the hare.) These, too, are very peculiar looking, but not fascinating.

Life is not that simplistic. Most people cite some well known person’s words as if they are sacrosanct, thereby bestowing some kind of wisdom on the quoter. Well, here’s one from Oscar Wilde: “Don’t ever believe everything you hear, even if I tell you.”

Help others with deep action, not superficial words.
