A State of the Union or A State of Mind?

A State of the Union or A State of Mind?

Here in Rhode Island people give you directions by using buildings that no longer exist as landmarks (“Take a left where the Old Stone Bank used to be”). They have “vacation” homes about 40 minutes from their primary homes, and often “go home” daily to get the mail. They  will pay tens of thousands of dollars to get a low number license plate, the prestige for which completely escapes me. Motorcycle drivers do not need to wear helmets but, by law, the passengers riding behind them do. Mayors, legislators, senators, supreme court justices, and a governor have all gone to prison at a rate, by my calculation, twice that of the general population.
