Monday Morning Memo

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 07/06/2020

Whether you wear a mask or not is not something I’m getting into here, though I find that my bank, which once forbade hats and sunglasses, now demanding masks on all customers is drop-deal comical in its irony. But the question for me is why is wearing a mask a debate at all?

It’s certainly not a question of being soigné, or physical appearance, or even inconvenience. It seems to me rooted in issues we see daily.

Some people will not stop to allow me to make a left turn, even in slow traffic. Others pull up to my bumper when I’ve signaled that I’m going to park, or they cross a double line into the opposite lane rather than wait. In clearly marked “merging traffic,” people won’t allow others to merge. In a crowded lobby, there is no order getting on an escalator or elevator. After an hour in church listening to charity, tolerance, and forgiveness, I’m always forced to practice the last of the three when people won’t let me out of my space in the lot.

There is a stubborn resistance to common courtesy among many, because of (in general) a fragile ego, or (specifically) a bad day. There’s a defiance of authority or even collegiality and civility when someone feels he or she has no control and must try to exert what they can no matter how trivial or rude or inconsiderate of others.

Remembering this, I always try to let others turn, to have their chance. We DO have the control to do that. Let’s unmask selfishness for what it is.

The sin which is indulged to the greatest extent, which separates us from God and produces so many spiritual disorders, and which are contagious, is selfishness.—Ellen G. White

Special Development for Crisis Times

The Martial Arts of Language: Control any situation, influence anyone, succeed in negotiations, achieve your goals. This is based on my seminal work in language, vocabulary, metaphors, examples, and similar techniques readily mastered. Everyone receives a copy of my eBook on the topic, as well. This is a Zoom program where everyone will get plenty of “air time” to practice and watch me demonstrate on their individual issues. Subscribe here.

Creating Provocative Dynamics: People ask me all the time how I can be contrarian, provocative, and stimulating “in the moment” with no hesitation, turning the conversation around and become an “object of interest.” I’ve deconstructed the techniques and will equip you, in a half-day via Zoom, how to be the center of attention, stand out in the crowd, and look good while you’re standing there! Subscribe here.

Sentient Strategy: I created this remote (or “live”) formulation of strategy with transition to implementation that takes only one full day or two half-days, ideal for these times, including a social consciousness consideration. Thirty people have been certified and two sales were made recently in Melbourne, Australia. Learn more here and contact me for eligibility: [email protected].

WEEKLY HIT—Deep Secrets: A 50-week series with a brief video on dynamic business tactics, and a brief podcast on brilliant language techniques. Between the two your “hit rate” will soar and you’ll be comfortable and confident in any environment. Can you spare ten minutes a week to dynamically increase your success? Subscribe here.

(Mea culpa: A few people pointed out some typos last week. No, they’re not deliberate, nor a test. I work very fast, and I proof very fast. I have the faith that you will value my content over trivial errors. However, I am selling a mask that doesn’t allow typos to enter your reading, if that helps.)
