Never Give Me Work, I Give You Work

Never Give Me Work, I Give You Work

“Failure work,” in my definition, is work you have to do over because it was poorly done the first time. That can range from an email to a proposal, from fixing a garage shelf to painting a room.

However, the worst condition is fixing someone else’s failure work. “If I want anything done well, I’ll have to do it myself” is the mantra that lets incompetent performance off the hook and increases your labor intensity. That’s why I’ve never sought employees for my firm, and why I change suppliers when I have to call them several times to get something done.

How much of your day is occupied with someone else’s failure to perform correctly?
