The Sounds of Silence

The Sounds of Silence

Sometimes I would put the TV on in a hotel room in the morning or evening just to have some “noise.” I used to do that at home while I was reading. Now I just play music (or nothing at all).

Broadcast TV is so ghastly negative, so stereotyped, so derivative, so ignorantly “between you and I,” that it’s irritating. Newton Minnow (chair of the Federal Communications Commission)  said over a half-century ago that television was a “vast wasteland.” He was wrong then, but maybe he’s right now.
