Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 8/14/2023

I host sessions of value for people for relatively low prices and open to a large number, or relatively high prices and restricted to relatively few. I believe that to maintain a strong brand, you have to appear in person at times (which for me means globally, since I have a worldwide following) as well as virtually.

The penultimate issue I take care of is the venue. I wait to see if I have a critical mass of registrants. This isn’t about money, as you may suspect, but about the right learning dynamic for my purposes. Once I have that commitment, I book a hotel or conference facility. (I do choose the city in advance.)

The ultimate action I take is to create the content. That’s right, I don’t market content, I market results. I feel “restricted” by content and prefer to be in the moment as much as possible. Some of my most memorable offerings have been largely improvisational and ad lib. It’s been said that I create an outline on the elevator in the morning, and the higher the floor I’m on, the more complete it is by the time I get to the meeting rooms. (My wife sometimes asks on the plane what I’m speaking about and I tell her, fairly truthfully, that I’m not really sure.)

True story: When I conducted my very first From Six to Seven Figures Workshop in Las Vegas for 2.5 days, I had 40 people in the room paying $5,000 each. I walked in 30 minutes early, realized that what I had prepared was not going to work, threw out the notes, and conducted it extemporaneously. That’s because I focus on results and not the tasks in an outline.

I’m not bragging (though Dizzy Dean once observed that, “If you can do it, it ain’t braggin’”). I’m telling you to trust yourself as an expert and as someone focused on helping others, not merely making money. But you need to market results and outcomes to do that.

You need to promote.
